Political independence and the monetary question: A comparison of the cases of Quebec, Scotland and Catalonia

Abstract

The book first presents a brief survey of the most relevant macroeconomic literature on the issue of the determination of monetary regimes which covers the existing theories on optimal currency areas, currency crises and optimal choice of exchange rate regimes. Then, a detailed catalogue of all the possible monetary arrangements for the new countries is described at length, offering insights into historical episodes which may be of interest.
